The 374 Colchri Ltd service is cancelled as of August 5 — and, despite promises of a temporary, SPT-subsidised replacement until November 28, Newlands and Auldburn councillor Emma Gillan is worried about the long-term future.

She told The Extra: “I am very concerned that residents may be stuck without a service beyond this period.

“The 374 is an essential service to Merrylee residents, and is of vital importance to connect to the new hospital in Govan.

“It is very well used by residents who are less mobile and less able to climb the steps over the railway bridge to get to Clarkston Road bus routes.”

The councillor has launched a petition urging SPT to find a long-term solution, with 100 signatures gathered so far.

However, an SPT spokeswoman responded that short term-contracts are “simply standard practice.

“SPT had already begun the process of putting in place a replacement service before councillor Gillan got in touch. Tenders for the long-term contract are being invited to ensure continuation of the service.”
