Wild bus ride for Crookfur kids

Crookfur Primary pupils got up close and personal with Scottish wildlife recently with a visit from the specially-designed Wild about Scotland bus.

The bus is touring schools as part of a conservation campaign develpoped by the Royal Zoological Society for Scotland (RZSS) and Clydesdale Bank.

Pupils from the school’s eco group (P2-P7) were able to get their hands dirty with fun lessons on native species and their habitats, and other topics covered included minibeasts, the ‘Highland Tiger’ (Scottish wildcat) and whether beavers should be reintroduced to Scotland.

Teacher Audrey Grubb commented: “The pupils absolutely loved the Wild about Scotland bus visiting.

“It’s a great initiative and a fun way for the children to learn about nature without being bound to the classroom, and it was an excellent way for our ECO group to see how our actions can impact the world around us and how important it is to maintain 
biodiversity.

“The pupils now know that they themselves can help to preserve wildlife in Scotland by making small changes in their everyday lives and how this small change can have a wider impact on their local environment.”

Chris West, CEO at the Zoological Society, added: “We believe connecting young people to the natural world is vital - now more than ever for preserving and learning about the huge variety of wildlife living in Scotland.”
