The Tom Craig Centre was packed to the rafters with around 100 locals venting their spleen about Stuarts Coaches’ controversial decision to abolish the hourly service from Law to Wishaw.

Meeting chairman Jim Wright said: “Law has been given short shrift and this route has been withdrawn without consultation.

“Poor communication by Stuarts has left us high and dry.”

Stuarts employee William McDonald said he was not surprised the number 10 bus run had been pulled on January 3, just 15 months after Stuarts had taken it over from the now defunct Irvine’s Coaches.

William said: “That run was making a loss. Each time I did it there wasn’t enough money made to pay my wages.”

A petition by local woman Marlene Fraser opposing the number 10 axing was handed over to meeting-goers, who appeared to be signing it in their droves.

Veteran Law SNP Councillor David Shearer said that inter-party negotiations with bus regulator SPT were continuing and he hoped the number 10 bus service could be revived.
