Woman is cut from car after crash at Biggar

Firefighters removed a car's roof to rescue a woman trapped following a crash near Biggar yesterday afternoon.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the casualty, who was then lifted clear of the stricken vehicle and taken to hospital by ambulance.

The two vehicle collision happened on the northbound A702 towards Biggar around 4:55pm.

A second woman, who had left the other car prior to emergency responders’ arrival, was also taken to hospital after being given oxygen by firefighters at the scene.

With the casualties safely in the care of paramedics, the SFRS crews from Biggar and Lanark worked to make the scene safe before leaving around 6:30pm.
