Work begins on Academy facilities

Work has started on the new £250,000 outdoor sports facilities at Bellshill Academy, including three separate multi-sport courts to offer handball, basketball, hockey, tennis and football.

North Lanarkshire Councils education convener Frank McNally breaks the ground as Bellshill Academy pupils show off how the development will look when complete.

A warm up/cool down area and outdoor gym equipment are also being installed and a four-lane running track including a sprint section will be marked out on site.

The entire development will have a polymeric rubber surface installed to allow for year-round use.

Head teacher Anne Munro said: “This is great news for the school and everyone is delighted that work has started, it will provide us with fantastic new outdoor sports facilities and have a massive impact on our pupils.”

Access to the site and each individual court will be made wheelchair friendly.
