Work on car park is halted

Residents of Braidhurst Street and the surrounding area in Motherwell are receiving a letter from North Lanarkshire Council this week explaining plans to build a small car park.

Workmen for the housing department had started to construct five spaces at the Old Mill Hotel end of the street, but after Motherwell North councillor Peter Nolan was contacted by residents wondering what was happening he asked for the worked to be temporarily halted.

This has been done so that local residents can have the chance to ask questions or make comments about the scheme.

Councillor Nolan said: “As the street is a dead end I think a car park is a good idea as do most of the residents I have spoken with.

“However, I did ask for work to be halted as the housing department should have told people what was going on before workmen appeared.

“It must have been a shock when the diggers turned up in the street and at least now people will know what is happening when they return.”
