Worshippers spoiled for choice of service

Midnight mass, as it used to be called, ain’t what it used to be with places of worship offering traditional and contemporary ways to celebrate the spirit of Christmas.

From candlelit vigils to PJs and onesie masses, worshiping comes in many guises this Christmas.

Here’s The Extra’s round-up of some of Christmas Eve’s celebrations of service.

4pm: A special ‘crib’ service at Clarkston Baptist Church, Arthur Street, for families with babes and toddlers.

5pm: St Cadoc’s on Fruin Avenue, Newton Mearns, holds a vigil mass.

6.30pm: Pyjama prayer party at Langside Parish Church, Ledard Road. Dress code PJs and onesies.

8.30pm: Back to St Cadoc’s for a bit of comfort and joy with a carol service.

9pm: Staying at St Cadoc’s for their first mass of Christmas.

11pm: Clarkston Parish Church lights up with a candlelit service taking worshippers through to midnight.

At the same time, St Ninian’s Episcopal Church, Glencairn Avenue, Pollokshields, holds its traditional ‘midnight mass’, a vigil eucharist.

11.15pm: Taking prayers towards the midnight hour at Langside parish church for a quieter, more reflective service for worshippers who would rather not step out in their sleepwear.
