Yet more arrests as police drugs haul reaches £100,000

Over the past month, £100,000 worth of drugs has been recovered in early morning raids throughout Kirkintilloch and Lenzie.

In the latest raid on Tuesday, officers seized a mixture of drugs, including up to £17,000 worth of diazepam, after targeting addresses in Cleddans Road and Newdyke Road in Kirkintilloch, and Westergreens in Lenzie.

One woman aged 35 and seven men aged between 31 and 57 were arrested. Six were detained in custody and are due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court in connection with alleged drug-related offences and offences under electricity act 1989, and two have been reported to the fiscal for alleged drug related offences.

On the same day, officers detected cannabis cultivation at an address in Cleddans Road, Kirkintilloch. One person aged 47 has been reported to the procurator fiscal for alleged offences under the misuse of drugs act and the electricity act 1989.

The police blitz on drugs has been led by Area Commander Chief Inspector Craig Smith after concerns by residents on the anti-social effects on the community.

Earlier in the month, officers attended at an address in Kirkintilloch where they recovered cannabis plants with an estimated street value of around £50,000. This was on June 18.

As a result, one person aged 31 has been reported to the procurator fiscal for alleged offences under the misuse of drugs act and the electricity act 1989.

And a week earlier, on June 12, police attended two addresses within Kirkintilloch and executed Glasgow Sheriff Court warrants. During these searches a quantity of drugs were recovered resulting in two people aged 26 and 38 being reported to the procurator fiscal in relation to alleged drugs offences and alleged offences relating to the electricity act 1989.
