Young farmers reach national final

Carluke Young Farmers junior speech making team of Mhairi Hall, Lizanne Young & Heather Bankier made it through to the national finals at RBS at Gogarburn on Saturday December 12.

The didn’t win, but the members turned in a great performance.

Well done also to everyone taking part in the national foursomes competition on Saturday.

Seventeen teams produced entries on the theme ‘County Show’. The display had to include a champion rosette, filled butter sponge cake, fresh floral display and a further article, all of which they had to make from scratch!

Neither of the senior teams was placed but Carluke juniors – Lizanne Young, Laura Hunter, Heather Waugh and Evanna Carlin –were placed first. Biggar YFC juniors – Louise Neilands, Kayleigh Mitchell, Jane Donald and Corrie Brewster) were third.

Juniors also picked up special prizes: Champion Rosette – Lizanne Young, Carluke YFC; Filled Butter Sponge Cake – Laura Hunter, Carluke YFC; Fresh Floral Display – Jane Donald, Biggar YFC, and Heather Waugh, Carluke YFC; Appearance & Display – Laura Hunter, Carluke YFC.

Carluke’s sexy Santa dance is being held on December 22 at Braehead Village Hall with prizes for the best costumes.

Carluke’s concert “Sweets, Fleets and Carnival Beats” is being held at Motherwell Concert Hall on January 14,15 and 16.

Biggar Young farmers are now selling tickets for their annual Burns Supper at Coulter Hall on January 8 with a 7.30pm start.But be warned – tickets are selling fast so if you are interested please contact Robyn Struthers on 07531 548219 as soon as possible.
