Your chance to nominate dedicated council workers for an award

Whether they are a teacher, dinner lady or refuse collector you could nominate them for an award if you’d like to see them get the recognition they deserve.

STARs Awards, the council’s Special Thanks and Recognition scheme for employees, will be awarded annually from this year and there are two categories for the public to nominate a council employee or team for demonstrating that they go the extra mile.

Council Leader Rhondda Geekie firmly believes in recognising employee excellence. She said, “Our STARs Awards have been designed to celebrate employee success and recognise outstanding contributions and it is ever more important to formally recognise this in the challenging financial climate and continuous transformation agenda that our services face.”

There are three STARs categories, and two of these will be open for nominations from both within the council and from the public making a total of five categories in all for employees, apprentice of the year and teams.

Nominations are being sought from April 27 to May 21 and the short-list will be announced in early June. Those who are short-listed will be invited to the STARs Award celebration on Friday, June 19 when the overall winners will be announced.

Full details of the criteria and the nomination form can be found on the home page of the council website. An information leaflet and the nomination form will also be available from the community hubs and from council offices.

Councillor Geekie said: “If you have received excellent service from a council employee or council team, then we want to hear from you. Complete a nomination form and tell us why your nominee deserves to receive an Award.

“The judging panel is looking forward to receiving nominations, and we will announce our short-list in early June.”

The closing date for nominations is 12 noon on Thursda, May 21 and nominations can be submitted by email or post as follows:
