Your View: should Gary Barlow give OBE back?


This week, it emerged the Take That singer put money in a scheme ruled as being set up for tax avoidance purposes.
House of Commons Public Accounts Committee chair Margaret Hodge said Barlow “might show a bit of contrition by giving back his OBE”.

Hide AdHowever, David Cameron refused to come down as hard on the former X Factor judge — who is a Conservative supporter — as he had on Jimmy Carr, when it emerged the comedian had taken part in a similar scheme.
Speaking at the weekend, the PM said: “Gary Barlow deserved his OBE and I think he should keep it.”
We took to the streets to ask southsiders: should Gary Barlow hand back his OBE?
Linda Salkeld (45), from Newton Mearns, said: “He should keep it — of course he should. Politicians should fix the system so they get rid of these loopholes.”

Hide AdChrstina Forbes (60), from Newton Mearns, told The Extra: “He got his OBE for the hard work he has done for charity, that’s why he should keep it.”
But for Newton Mearns man Steve Forster(71),“if you earn money, you should pay tax, it’s as simple as that.
“The government has to ensure tax evasion is a legal, not a moral decision.”
Sheila Wachtel (88), from Netherlee, added: “It is nothing compared to what MPs got up to so none of them should have the right to criticise, they are the ones who are in the wrong.”
