The boy was stabbed in the abdomen. The wound became infected and he developed a fever, but he responded well to antibiotics and made a full recovery.

The accused, who is still just 16, cannot be named because of his age. He has appeared in court on other matters since the stabbing.

Imran Bashir, prosecuting, said the schoolboy thought at first he had been punched by the older youth, but then saw blood and realised he had been stabbed. Friends and a nearby householder helped him before he was taken to hospital for treatment to a 2cm deep wound.

Defence agent Diarmid Bruce said his client had been attacked previously. This was followed by Facebook messages which he held the boy responsible for.

He called the boy over when he saw him in the street.

Sheriff Shiona Waldron deferred sentence on the teen for background reports and allowed him to remain on bail.
