Zip sliding away to the tune of £6,000

The ‘Zip Slide the Clyde’ challenge provided a unique and thrilling way of seeing Glasgow’s cityscape whilst raising funds for children and adults with learning disabilities.

The foolhardy...err sorry, brave volunteers, were raising funds for Cosgrove Care, and have succesfully managed to present a cheque for an amazing £6,000.

After being lifted to 140ft beside the Finnieston Crane, the zip sliders travelled 700ft from one side of the Clyde to the other!

Remarkably the fundraisers ranged in age from 16 to 72, including five members of the charities own staff.

Support worker Beata Pal said: “I wanted to raise funds for Cosgrove Care which is a company I both work for and think highly of.”

Support Worker Jean Holland said: “I wanted to raise money for Cosgrove because they do a great job”

Claire Lovat from Newton Mearns recently attended Cosgrove Care’s Sporting Dinner. She was so touched by the personal stories relayed on the big screen that evening that the Zip Slide Challenge gave her the perfect opportunity to do something for Cosgrove.

Claire’s husband, Tim, bought a Hot-Air ballooning trip at the Sporting Dinner auction so they are both clearly fond of adventure!

The oldest participant- at 72 - was George Dunlop from Newton Mearns. George said: “ It was a great thrill for a great cause!”

Cosgrove is a charity that specialises in providing personalised support and care services for children and adults who have learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, and mental health problems living in and around East Renfrewshire.
