The restaurant chain, which specialises in southern fried chicken, will open its first UK branch by the end of the year, and plans to open hundreds of restaurants across the country over the next ten years.

Where are the new restaurants?

The company is set to open five restaurants in the UK in 2021.

Popeyes said it plans to offer both home delivery and takeaway when it launches in the UK.

The company unveiled the plans after successful launches of the chain in Spain and Switzerland. Popeyes also recently opened storefronts in China and Sri Lanka, hoping to replicate its success in the United States.

The fast food chain sold 250 million fried chicken sandwiches in America in just one year, after launching the product in August 2019.

Elias Diaz Sese, co-founder of Popeyes UK and a non-executive director at Dominos Pizza, said the expansion plan can create hundreds of new jobs.

He told the Press Association: "It's difficult to say exactly what the scale will be right now, but we are looking to create hundreds of jobs in the restaurants and in the supply chain."

What’s likely to be on the menu?

Popeyes specialises in fried chicken, and was founded in New Orleans in 1972. It is known for marinating the chicken for 12 hours in Louisiana seasonings.

The UK menu is not confirmed yet, but the chain is known for its Chicken Sandwich, and Cajun Flounder Sandwich. Similar to KFC, there are also options for the whole family, including, a Family Feast, Family Meals, and Boneless Chicken selections.
