A running start

GIFFNOCK North athlete Erin Wallace added yet another medal collection, as she got 2014 off to the best possible start.

The 13-year-old, who was chosen last month as one of The Extra’s Ones to Watch for 2014, claimed a landmark victory at the prestigious Inter District Cross Country Championships in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh last weekend.

In the u15 Girls 4k, Erin Wallace maintained her fine winter form, finishing first in a close fought race ahead of Central AC’s Kate Gallagher.

Meanwhile, elsewhere at the championships, Giffnock North athletes continued to bring home the medals.

In the u13s 3K Emily Crusher (6th), Annabel Ballantyne (12th) and Emma Lawton (13th) contributed to West’s silver medal winning effort, while Nicole Scott helped her team to another silver in the u17 race.

Luke Traynor continued his steady return from injury with a good tenth in the Senior Men’s 8k race, running for Scottish Students who took silver.

Former Giffnock North runner Megan Crawford, now starring for Fife AC and East District, finished fourth in the Senior Ladies 6k event.
