Although Ayr scored the first try, Biggar dug deep to dominate proceedings and they eventually ran out winners by 51-12.

Biggar’s strong running style in almost perfect conditions paved the way for nine tries, three of which were converted.

Biggar points were scored by Abbie Baillie (3 tries), Feebi Robinson (3), Rebecca Clarke (2) and Sarah Denholm, while Emily Armstrong was on target with three conversions.

The result was a fantastic one for a Biggar side which had received a bye in the previous round. Balfron conceded their match several weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Ayr girls had beaten Carrick to qualify for the Biggar fixture.

Biggar’s win sees the girls through to the cup semi-final where they will meet a team from either Auchterarder, Oban, Royal High, Hillhead Jordanhill, Caithness or Lothian Wanderers.

Also in action were the Biggar under-15 boys team, who enjoyed an emphatic 50-0 win at Kilmarnock.
