Almost 150 Biggar fans travelled to see their heroes clinch an epic 34-22 triumph.

Yet it was Hamilton who scored the first try, before narrowly failing to extend their advantage when the conversion attempt hit a post.

Biggar’s Marcus Dobie then took a hit to the ribs from a Hamilton tackler when gathering the ball and had to be replaced by his brother Aaron.

Biggar got right back into the game when Peter Steele got the ball wide following a scrum and crashed over for a try converted by Euan Bogle.

Bogle then increased his side’s advantage with a penalty and Biggar went further in front when a Rory McGinn try was again converted by Bogle.

The nailbiting contest raged on with Hamilton capitalising on a gap in the Biggar defence to notch a converted try. But Biggar went 22-12 up at half-time when Steele scored a try and Bogle duly kicked a further two points.

Despite Hamilton’s two second half tries, Biggar ended up winning by 12 points thanks to a try by Rowan Stewart and a converted score by Steele.

Biggar match reporter Graham Kerr said: “The Biggar team is inventive, skilled and cohesive and the boys have natural talent.”
