There was a good turnout at Lanark Agricultural Centre for the event, the proceeds of which will go to good causes in the months ahead.

Cleland Miners Boxing Club provided young boxers for no fewer than nine bouts and guests could either book a ticket and enjoy a meal first or pay on the door at the night just for the boxing and auction.

“We had a great night of top quality amateur boxing enjoyed by 220 seated and 50 standing guests,” said organiser Hugh Black.

“The night started with an excellent two course meal and we were then straight into four bouts of top quality boxing action.”

These were followed by an interval and an auction which included signed football shirts from Ronaldo, Messi and Van Persie, as well as a week’s holiday at a luxury apartment in Spain. The lots were snapped up by members of the audience.

“It was straight back to action and five more boxing bouts which had everyone on the edge of their seats,” said Hugh.

“The night drew to a close with a raffle. Everyone agreed it was a fantastic showcase for some of the best young boxers in the district.

“I would like to thank everyone who came along and supported the night.

“I’d also like to once again thank Cleland Miners Boxing Club, Lanark Agricultural Centre and Gilbert Thomson for their hospitality.”
