McGurk is much better prepared

Viewpark boxer Michael McGurk expects to be much sharper as he competes in his third professional fight on Friday.

McGurk takes on Jason McArdle at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility and says he is much better prepared than for his win over William Warburton at the same venue in February.

He said: “I got injured in the lead up so I was only able to spar once and that was three weeks before the fight, so my preparation was pretty rubbish.

“As such I was maybe a little slow off the mark against Warburton, although I was still able to do some nice combinations here and there.

“However, this time I’ve had good sparring with the likes of Lee Gallacher and Rhys Pagan so I should put in a much better performance.”

McArdle lost to Gallacher on that card, but McGurk says he was unable to scout his future opponent.

He said: “I didn’t see Lee’s fight as it was all a bit hectic after my own.

“However, I’m not too bothered as while I’ve seen a little of McArdle in action I’m not one for sitting down and studying my opponents.

“I just know that if I go into the ring and do what I need to do then I’ll win and that’s the main thing.”

Also on the card Gallacher faces Dee Mitchell, while Iain Butcher meets Ghanian Isaac Quaye.
