SOUTHSIDER Shaunagh McCuaig has been selected to represent Scotland in the World Youth Netball championships, taking place in Glasgow.

In preperation for the tournament, the former St 
Ninian’s pupil trains more than five times a week, combining weights, sprints, conditioning, ball skills and court sessions.

The 19-year-old first picked up the sport in her first year at the high school in Giffnock.

Shaunagh, who stays in Netherlee, plays her netball for Glasgow South Saltires.

The tournament takes place at the Emirates Arena with the opening ceremony on August 22.

Immediately after the ceremony, Scotland will take to the court against Cayman 
Islands.

A total of twenty countries with the best young netballers from all over the world are coming to Glasgow to compete.

The Glasgow university law student told The Extra: “We will all be nervous when we first step out on court because its such an huge occasion but we have all worked so hard to prepare and are more than ready to rise to it.

“Walking out in front of a home crowd and hearing Flower of Scotland, will just be incredible! Standing there alongside all the best young netballers in world in my home town of Glasgow is something I will always remember.”
