Bully for Stepps Hockey Club as it reaches centenary

A HOCKEY club which has attracted players from all over this area is preparing to celebrate its centenary next year.

Stepps Hockey Club was formed in 1913 and will mark turning 100 by hosting a number of events including a high profile tournament in August.

The club hopes to attract current and ex-members to a centenary dinner which will be held on August 24 in the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow.

The club has been successful over the years winning the Scottish Cup twice in the 70s as well as the Scottish District Cup.

They also reached the final of the Scottish Reserve Cup in the 80s and won the Scottish Plate in the 00s.

The club plays its home games at University of Strathclyde and trains on Stepps Primary School’s astroturf pitch.

The club currently has three men’s elevens and for the first time in over 40 years has established a ladies XI who are thoroughly enjoying their first year of competition.

The men’s first XI play in Scottish National League Division 2, seconds compete in the Scottish Regional League and the thirds play in West District League. The Ladies team also compete in the West District League. There is also a junior section with over 60 youngsters attending training sessions and playing in a development XI each week.
