AN 18-year-old female former hairdresser becoming a national rally champion may seem about as likely as Albion Rovers reaching the Scottish Cup quarter-finals.

But – just like the Wee Rovers achieved exactly that feat last season – Carnwath lass Linzi Henderson, of Carlindean Farm, has just become Scottish Ladies Forest Stages Rally Champion.

Her delighted dad Walter told Gazette Sport: “It is a great achievement for Linzi in her first season competing in forest rallying.

“I remember the stunned looks on the boys’ faces when she turned up at last year’s Scottish Tarmac Rallying awards night to collect her top female prize wearing a dress and high heels.

“They were all thinking to themselves: ‘Who is she?’ and I suspect the same thing will be happening when Linzi goes up to collect her forest rallying title in Glasgow in December.”

Linzi – driving a distinctive yellow MG ZR – sealed the 2014 Ladies tarmac title at this month’s Speyside Stages, round five of the ARR Craib MSA Scottish Rally Championship.
