Centurions round off winter series

THE Cumbernauld Centurions’ winter series was rounded off in style on Easter Saturday with some close and exciting racing taking place.

The rearranged meeting, previously cancelled due to snow, this time took place under a dry sky and in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

With this being the last chance for riders to get points on the board of the winter series, some closes battles ensued in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The most hotly contested racing came in the seven to nine age group with three out of the four races being won by different riders!

The 11 to 15 age group also showed spirit and determination pushing all the way to the finish line.

Not to be outdone by the youngsters the 17+, consisting of a number of riders considerably older than 17, showed that they still have the talent and commitment to make for some extremely close racing!

The winter series has been a considerable success for the Centurions with the number of people participating rising over all age groups. The five rounds held were all very closely contested and the overall group winners will be announced shortly.

Building on this success the Centurions are now looking forward to the impending summer series which promises to be the most exciting yet! The club have teamed up with the Clydebank-based Glasgow Titans to run a Scottish Regional Summer Series for the first time this year. Five races will be held at each club’s home track with round two kicking off at the Centurions’ Westfield track on April 21. This new style race series promises to make things even more exciting with all points won counting towards each rider’s British Cycling Ranking!

As the Centurions make ready for this new series of battles, things continue to go from strength to strength for the Cumbernauld team!
