Champion gets a kick out of college

Sam Allan has enrolled in the HNC Sports Coaching with Development of Sport course at Cumbernauld College in the hope that he can one day train young people to compete in kickboxing.

The 22-year-old recently won the WKA Professional European Title after beating Michael Robbie Johnson and is keen to share his experience and expertise with others.

He said: “The reason I started going to college was to help me get in to a field where I can get sport across to a wide variety of children - they are the future of Scotland and of Great Britain.

“My goal is to help young sportsmen and women become experts in their field. I would love to develop young sports kids in to superstars when they are older. I currently run my own kickboxing and martial arts school in Wishaw, called Rivals School of Martial Arts, where I teach kids from three years old.”

He added: “I am really enjoying the course as I am learning more about sport and the development of it. There is a lot of variety to the teaching as well which is great for me.”

Sam started training as a kickboxer when he was just five years old and he even opened his first gym when he was just 16, so he could train full time.

He said: “In the gym we have trained over 20 Scottish champions, 15 British champions and 10 world champions since it opened. We also teach over 15 classes a week and cater for all ages.”
