City top the league

Glasgow City moved to the top of the SWPL after a resounding 10-0 win over Inverness.

It followed hat-tricks from Jo Love and Leanne Ross, a double from Fiona Brown and strikes from Denise O’Sullivan and Courtney Whyte.

City took to the field with the knowledge that a win would put them clear at the top of the SWPL after Hibernian, the only other side along with City who boasted a 100% record before today, had slumped to defeat at Rangers in an earlier kick off.

Jo Love fired the Glasgow side ahead in the opening minutes. A penalty then gave City a spot kick and Leanne Ross stepped up to bury it and give City a two-goal advantage.

Fiona Brown scored the third before Love came up with number four. Brown sttled the score at five before the break.

City made some changes during the second half. Then Denise O’Sullivan made it 6-0.

Whyte set up Ross for her second of the match before the young defender got her own goal and her first for Glasgow City when she headed a Ross corner kick into the back of the net to make it 8-0.

Leanne Ross secured her second hat-trick in successive weeks before Jo Love then ensured she also got a claim for the match ball getting her third of the match in the closing minutes. City head coach Eddie Wolecki Black said: “We are happy that we have continued to maintain our progress.”
