The four man Scotland team won every one of their 12 matches against England, Ireland and Wales to become the first squad ever to have a 100 per cent winning record in the tournament.

Greg’s dad William told Gazette Sport: “It was excellent for Greg to be picked for the under-25 squad in the first place as he is only 18 years old.

“He is the youngest player ever to be chosen for Scotland at that level.

“For him to then be part of a history making squad was unbelievable. I was in the crowd and it was great to watch.”

Greg, of Shoulderigg Place, has played bowls for the past five years having originally taken up the sport due to the influence of William, an outdoor Scotland international bowler in the 1990s.

The teenage star, a member of Blantyre Miners Welfare Indoor BC, helped the Scots win the Home International with one day’s play still remaining.
