Celebrity starter Sandra Whittaker was there to blow the whistle on all the childrens races this year.

She then assisted the official starter Alistair Thomson in starting the 5k and 10k races.

Sandra set Scotland’s 200 metre record 30 years ago at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Race director Charlie McKie said: “The hard work of the committee ensured the events went as smoothly as in previous years.

“There was also positive and congratulatory feedback from athletes. The new 10k course seemed to find favour.

“Grateful thanks to all our sponsors, athletes and parents who contributed to another successful event.”

Scottish 10,000 metres track champion Luke Traynor won the 10k in 30 minutes and 54 seconds, while fellow Giffnock North athlete Andrew Clark won the 5k.

Irvine Running Club’s David Millar came second in the 10K with Giffnock North’s Greg Turner third.

The first female over the line was Central Athletic Club’s Lyndsay Morrison, closely followed by Garscube Harriers’ Laura Devine and Bellahouston Road Runners athlete Deborah Gray.

The fun races for primary school pupils took place beforehand.
