The first half saw relentless pressure from the home side and the Newton Mearns visitors were all at sea.

By half-time the score was 34-5 for the home side but they had a glimmer of hope with Falkirk full-back Craig Robertson yellow-carded seconds before the break. This advantage gave ‘Craigs’ Greig Haswell the opening to score at the corner flag. ‘Craigs rocked Falkirk when flanker Stuart Pollock charged over for a well deserved try in the opening minute of second period of play.

The Mearns side then went on to repeat that feat not long afterwards through Stewart Anderson.

Nevertheless Falkirk countered strongly in the last ten minutes to win out 53-19.
