Cumbernauld bowlers gather for 150th green opening

CUMBERNAULD Bowling Club held its 150th annual green opening ceremony last weekend.

The greens of the town’s oldest bowling club were formally opened by Margaret McMillan, wife of club president Tom McMillan. Mrs McMillan delivered the ceremonial jack and threw the first two bowls of the new season.

The ceremony was attended by depute provost Jean Jones, MSP Jamie Hepburn, local councillors, Cumbernauld Bowling Club members, representatives of various bowling associations and other bowling clubs with whom Cumbernauld has a lengthy association.

The opening ceremony marked the beginning of an auspicious year for Cumbernauld Bowling Club and is the first of a number of events specially arranged to mark the sesquicentenary of the club.

CROY BOWLING CLUB

THE club got the new season under way on Sunday, April 7, with the opening ceremony carried out by Mrs Janette Tourish, wife of the president Pat Tourish.

The club is looking for new members and is offering memberhsip at half price for new members. Fees: £37.50 or £30 for seniors.
