Lynn joined the other first inductees at a special ceremony at the Ravenscraig regional sports facility in Motherwell this week.

The area’s sporting greats have been immortalised on 12 boards which run along the main corridor of the facility.

Joining Lynn in the Hall of Fame are Ricky Burns (boxing), Sir Matt Busby (football), David Crabb (swimming), John Higgins (snooker), Sandy Jones (golf), Budhi Kunderan (cricket), Lisbon Lions (football), Tom McKean (athletics), Johnathan Paterson (football), Louise and Kimberley Renicks (judo) and Angela Robertson, nee McDowell (swimming).

Lynn started playing handball at the age of 10 with the Tryst ’77 Handball Club at the Tryst Sports Centre in her home town of Cumbernauld.

Her first GB selection was for the European Youth Olympics held in Bath in 1995, where she captained the squad.

The London 2012 Olympic Games offered her the opportunity to represent her country on the world’s greatest sporting stage.

Lynn’s talent and determination saw her identified as an inspirational leader and captain of the team, so when Lynn walked out into the handball arena at London’s Olympics Park it was one of the proudest moments of her life.

Lynn uses such world class experiences to inspire the next generation of young athletes to follow in her footsteps by working with local schools, clubs and sports programmes.

Council leader Councillor Jim Logue said: “Sport plays an important part in the rich heritage of North Lanarkshire.

“We were blessed with an abundance of candidates for our inaugural sports hall of fame. We were inundated with suggestions about possible candidates and the hall of fame has really caught the imagination of the people of North Lanarkshire.

“The deliberations of the judging panel were long and detailed. Some will argue for other names but no-one can argue about the contribution made by our inaugural inductees. All have made a huge contribution to sport at the highest level.”
