‘Dale looking to quarter final after great win

SOUTHSIDERS PSL Team Sports Clydesdale booked their place in the quarter-finals of cricket’s Scottish Cup after a barnstorming victory over Edinburgh club SMRH at Titwood on Saturday.

Needing to win outright in order to shut out the challenge of East Kilbride, the only club they had lost to in the round-robin first round, Clydesdale quickly took the bull by the horns as, for the second week running, Zeeshan Bashir struck form with the ball.

The Scotland A off-spinner claimed three wickets to help restrict the Edinburgh club to just 122, before international all-rounder Safyaan Sharif’s half-century led ‘Dale to a six-wicket success, with almost twenty-four overs to spare.

Clydesdale’s win rendered East Kilbride’s huge 196-run home victory over West Lothian entirely academic.

Now Clydesdale face an away quarter-final tie on July 21 against old rivals Ferguslie, whose spokesman Michael English said: “Taking on ‘Dale at Meikleriggs is certainly an exciting prospect.”

Elsewhere, NVT Poloc travelled to Aberdeen to play Stoneywood-Dyce, but managed to post a target of only 156 for victory.
