Derek Armstrong stands down from Biggar Rugby Club

The game finished one of the least successful season’s in Biggar’s history.

They recorded just one league win and ended up marooned at the foot of the National League table.

Next term will be under the leadership of a new head coach, with Derek Armstrong standing down after virtually three seasons in charge. But rugby match reporter Alistair Stewart did not blame the retiring coach.

He said: “Derek’s contribution throughout has been excellent and often he has been a one-man-band which has not made his task any easier.

“Darren Burns, who made a welcome return to Hartreemill mid-season, is not able to committ the required time to coach full-time.

“And Al Dunnet – who has made a big impression at the club through his coaching of the seniors and the U-15s – is another whose time is limited.”
