Double delight

All in all, it’s been a great week for GHA’s teenage back row forward Grant MacDonald.

The former Hutchesons’ grammar school pupil has been named the RBS Championship League A player of the season.

Grant will receive his award tomorrow at the Scottish Rugby Union’s end of season club award’s ceremony taking place at Murrayfield.

It is decided by votes garnered from opposition clubs, who vote for their player of the match.

In the fourth annual Braidholm sevens, a fine performance from the youngster helped GHA defeat last year’s winners, the Minerva Builders, in in a thrilling 20 minute final that could have gone either way.

Organiser Rangie Jericevich said: “I am sure there are some broken bodies after the tournament, not to mention sunburnt.

“Next year will be our fiftth anniversary and we are hoping to make the event bigger and better than ever.”

Minerva Builders captain Louis Kinsey added: “All credit to GHA, the boys had the desire after losing to us last year and it showed.”

Ardrossan Accies came through to win the plate after defeating Braidholm in the final.

“We’ll go away, learn from this and hopefully come back next year and take the honours. Well done and thanks to organisers.”
