early goals seal defeat

Pollok crashed out of the Scottish Junior Cup after a 3-1 defeat at defending champions Hurlford United’s Blair Park.

The Pollok defence’s inability to clear a 3rd minute corner saw the ball fall to the feet of Stewart Kean, who curled one into the net to give the ‘Ford the lead. Kean doubled his tally in the 15th minute, getting on the end of Paul McKenzie’s low ball into the box to net from close range.

Kieran McAleenan missed a 58th minute penalty for Pollok, and Hurlford capitalized on this in the 61st minute. The ‘Lok scored a consolation goal three minutes later, a long pass finding Allan MacKenzie who flicked under Ally Brown.

Any hopes that Pollok had of getting back into the game were effectively dashed in the 68th minute when John Sweeney picked up his second booking of the afternoon for clipping Robertson’s heels.

Pollok travel across the city on Saturday to face Rossvale in the Central League Cup. Kick off at Petershill Park is 2pm.
