A step closer for play-off promotion

Clyde moved a step closer to securing a promotion play-off place with a convincing 2-0 win over Montrose.

Michael Daly put the visitors ahead in the 21st minute when he connected with a Stef McCluskey cross.

Soon after that, McCluskey was brought down in the box by Wilson and he stepped up to convert the subsequent penalty kick to double Clyde’s advantage and score his 12th goal of the season. McCluskey and Pat Scallion both missed chances to extend the lead.

In the second half, Montrose pushed to get back into the match but, despite having a lot of possession, created little in font of goal. The home side did, however, force Jamie Barclay into a fine save with around five minutes left to play. At the other end, Scott Ferguson had been denied by a last-gasp tackle but the two goals proved to be enough as a hardworking performance earned a crucial three points. It means Clyde leapfrog Stirling Albion into third place and are five points above fifth-placed Berwick Rangers with two games remaining.
