But it was a better weekend for Campsie Minerva who hammered home 12 goals as they maintained their unbeaten league record.

Harestanes 1 Pennies 2

Harestanes failed in their bid to reach the last 16 of the Scottish Amateur Cup with a below par performance against strong opposition.

Pennies probably had more of the better chances in this sixth round replay at Merkland, but were failing to make the most of these. They were good in defence and the midfield but lacked real punch up front.

This changed with a second half substitution that turned the game for them: the replacement for the Falkirk side scored both goals, paving the way for their deserved victory. Overall they deserved their win in the end over the 2015 winners.

Harestanes got off to a positive start taking the game to Pennies. A good cross by Jamie Broadfoot gave Blair Munn the chance for an opener but he headed straight at the keeper who cleared for a corner.

As the first half progressed Harestanes looked to be clearly on top, though not threatening to score.

Broadfoot set up another chance when lifting over the defence to give Munn a second chance but again he failed to beat the keeper.

The best Pennies had to offer so far was a low shot from the right which was wide of the left post. Another opportunity came from a corner, Greg Hutton clearing the header on the line.

A third chance came when Andy Ward headed across the box; the goal was open but the player conspired to put the ball over. At the other end, Johnny Black shot a Broadfoot assist wide.

In the tenth minute of the second half a shot by Munn was zeroing in but was cleared at the last minute.

It was the visitors who broke through in 64 minutes with a header from their substitute. Minutes later they were two up with a low shot following a corner.

Harestanes pulled one back when Broadfoot’s corner was met by Ryan Sinclair at the back post and blasted in. Harestanes piled on the pressure as they sought an equaliser but it was not to be.

Harestanes Tote: no winner, £350 rollover.

Campsie Minerva 12 Gourock Athletic 0

Campsie Minerva hammered 12 goals past Gourock Athletic in their Foster’s Central Scottish AFL Premier Division match.

With facilities in Lennoxtown waterlogged, Minerva had to give up home advantage and switch the match to Broadwood.

Minerva manager Grant McKie had to shuffle his pack around due to a mounting injury list but put out a team that he thought would come up trumps against the visitors.

Within a minute Minerva were 1-0 up, Callum Hendrie netting a headed effort at the back post after a good cross from Johnny McWilliams.

Hendrie got his and Minerva’s second after five minutes, a good free-kick from 20 yards out.

With 12 minutes gone two goals in rapid succession from Tommy Neil then McWilliams put the game out of sight by making it 4-0 and in between all this Hendrie was denied his hat trick by Tamburini in goal for Gourock.

It went to 5-0 after 15 minutes, McWilliams getting his second after it was laid on plate by Hendrie. Hendrie then grabbed his hat-trick with 20 minutes of the first half remaining and, at 6-0 to Minerva, it was looking a bit like a mismatch.

It went to 7-0 three minutes later; this time Mickey Boyle had a tap in after Tamburini made a good stop from Neil.

With 10 minutes of the half to go the visitors got an opportunistic goal taken well by Gourock forward Buddy Watson; this was a hard shift from the Clydeside team and no more than they deserved.

Mikey Boyle and McWilliams started to link really well and the Gourock defence were all at sea with McWilliams grabbing Minerva’s eighth, and his hat-trick, as the first half drew to a close.

The second half was only five minutes old when sub Jonathan Reid made it 9-1 and a long second half would have to be endured by the visitors who were now completely devoid of any ideas as how to stop Minerva attacking them in waves.

With 20 minutes remaining Boyle got his second after great work by Jamie Pollock 10-1 Minerva and 10 minutes later Reid made it 11-1 with Pollock again at the heart of the move.

Boyle got a deserved hat-trick and Minerva’s 12th in the dying minutes of the game.

Minerva remain the only unbeaten team in table and sit third, a point behind Harestanes and 11 adrift of leaders Eastfield.

However they have played one game less than local rivals Hares and have six games in hand on Cumbernauld side Eastfield.

Lenzie YC

Lenzie’s 2002B team went down 3-0 at home to Milton of Stirling in their CSFA League match.
Lenzie never really got into this game and relied on good defending to keep the score line blank up to half-time.
The second half was more of the same with Lenzie on the back foot and eventually Milton’s pressure paid off and although Lenzie did not deserve to lose by three goals, they just did not do enough to take anything from the game.
Referee’s player was Matt Gunn who, along with defenders Ben Street and Lewis Crawford and Dylan Watton did not deserve to be in the losing side.
