Brave 'Vale's Scottish Junior Cup run is over

The Bishopbriggs side had reached the last 16 for the first time in their history but found the 2014 winners too big a hurdle to overcome.

Yet contrary to the scoreline the ’Vale youngsters gave the Super League Premier team a hard fought match and didn’t go down without a fight.

In the opening minute Fraser Team made an excellent run down the right and Jay McKay, sliding in, just failed to get on the end of his excellent cross.

At the other end McKenzie was allowed to run half the park with the ball and Rossvale could count themselves lucky his final shot was weak and easily saved by Calder.

Hurlford’s Kean then miskicked wide at the back post before McKay, who was roasting the Ayrshire side, was fouled at the edge of the home box when about to shoot.

McKenzie had a 25-yarder brilliantly turned over the bar for a corner but the Hurlford man did find the target with a bullet from similar range to put the home side ahead against the run of play.

’Vale didn’t let their heads go down and kept trying to break the Hurlford defence down but were finding it getting harder and on 36 minutes Robertson made it 2-0 from 20 yards with a shot which took 
a deflection.

Rossvale started the second half on the attack but their efforts were brought to an abrupt end when Hurlford were awarded a 
controversial penalty.

Calder seemed to save on the line from a corner but even though there was no Hurlford appeal the referee adjudged defender Kinnear to be the culprit and Kean sent Calder the wrong way from the spot.

Only a late ditch sliding tackle from McGregor stopped another goal but Hurlford did get a fourth when a cross from substitute Boris was dummied by Kean, allowing McKenzie to pick his spot at back post.

There was no further scoring and it’s now back to league business for Rossvale with a big crowd expected for their match at home to Johnstone Burgh on Saturday when recent signing Bobby Petta is expected to make his debut.
