Uddingston Anvil: 1

Campsie Minerva: 3

Minerva travelled the relatively short distance to Uddingston on Saturday to play the local amateur side, Uddingston Anvil, in the league.

The game was to be played on astro and the high winds ensured the quality of football on show left a bit to be desired.

Minerva opened well and the lively Tullis up front came close with only two minutes on the clock.

The visitors’ opening spell saw them almost encamped in the Anvil half of the field.

There was eight minutes on the clock when Anvil had their first attack and won a corner.

The ball was whipped into the crowded box and to the embarrassment of the Minerva defence and keeper, it went straight into the net. Red faces all round. Not the best of starts, but credit to the Minerva players - they soon put this blip behind them and got on with the job in hand in less than ideal conditions.

With 12 minutes played, and Tullis came close with a header.

Minerva continued to attack Anvil at every opportunity and equalised in 28 minutes. Tullis was the provider, whipping in an excellent cross.

Duff was the scorer with a nice run and header past the static Anvil keeper. The reality being just rewards for their attacking play.

In 35 minutes Tullis got himself on the scoresheet. Neatly sent through by a McLaughlin pass the speedy striker took his time before lashing the ball home from around 12 yards.

The second half started as the first ended, Minerva very much in the ascendency with Tullis causing Anvil all sorts of trouble with his pace.

Minerva’s third goal came from the penalty spot, Tullis was again involved being tugged in the box as he broke clear of his marker.

The Anvil defender was lucky not to see red. McLaughlin was the nominated penalty taker and went on to confidently thrash the ball home to essentially wrap up the three points.

Minerva made changes with McKie, Morton, Mitchell and Smart being introduced at various parts of the game. There was, however, to be no more scoring in the game.
