Carluke Rovers return to training this weekend/boss Mark Weir eyes new signings

"Rather than phonecalls, I’ll get to speak to these trialists face to face,” Weir told the Carluke and Lanark Gazette.

"I’ve spoken to a few of them already and I’m hoping at least four or five turn up, hopefully more.

"I’m not a great believer in non contact training.

“You are limited with what you can do with drills and different things.

"But because the guys have not kicked a ball for so long, I thought it was time for them to get a wee feel of the ball.

"There will not be major training as such. We can’t do the contact stuff until May 17, when we will be hard at it.

"Then there’s a mini pre-season league we’re going into from May 29 (hosted by Newmains, this series of Lanarkshire League matches will also feature Forth Wanderers, Bellshill Athletic and Royal Albert).

"That takes us right up to the end of June, which gives me two weeks in July and the the season kicks off on July 17.”

The gaffer also gave an update on a trio of players who are leaving Rovers.

He said: “There will be new faces coming and also ones going as well. Lewis Hill, who I had on loan, has gone back to Lesmahagow.

"And big Dominik Chiedu, who I got on loan from Larkhall, he’s actually going to Bellshill.

"The other one leaving is James Miller who’s going to West Calder.”

Further moves are guaranteed in the coming weeks.
