Brendan Rodgers faces a momentous Celtic question as he's told to unleash 'wonderful' duo on opponents

Celtic had a returning start against Motherwell spark a question.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has been told he faces a major question over his defensive pairing.

The Hoops strolled back into domestic business following a stalemate with Atalanta in the Champions League, beating Motherwell 3-0 at Fir Park in the Premiership. Luke McCowan netted in the first half with Alistair Johnston and Adam Idah finishing off scoring in the second 45.

One big boost outside of the obvious in terms of result was Cameron Carter-Vickers coming back into the team after injury. He slotted into centre-back alongside American international teammate Auston Trusty, with Liam Scales moved from the centre of defence to left-back.

Hoops legend Pat Bonner believes it now poses a massive poser to Rodgers, in terms of who starts as the middle two defenders going forward. He told Sportsound: “The big question mark now for Rodgers is who will he put in alongside Carter-Vickers? Will it be Trusty or will it be Scales? That’s a big, big decision.”

Another Celtic hero in Frank McAvennie wants to see Carter-Vickers and Trusty unleashed in defence. He told Football Insider: “Trusty and Carter-Vickers could make a wonderful partnership.

“There is nothing wrong with Scales to be fair but I think those two will take Celtic forward, the two of them could be class. They know each other and maybe that’s why Scales has stepped up his game because he knows he has competition.“

Next up for Celtic is a home game with Dundee in the league. Then it’s a face-off with Aberdeen again in a Premier Sports Cup semi-final match at Hampden.
