Celtic hold advantages over Wolves and ex Rangers boss in pursuit of transfer after 'serious' Hoops offer
The sought after winger is being looked at by Celtic, Wolves and Norwich City
Celtic transfer target Fares Ghedjemis is on the radar of former Rangers boss Philippe Clement and Wolves as a race emerges for the Frosinone winger.
The Algerian international was reportedly the subject of a ‘very serious’ bid from Martin O’Neill in the summer, as the Hoops boss looks to add depth to the flanks. However, this was rejected by Frosinone, as they seen the 23-year old as an integral component of their promotion bid. With three games to go, they currently sit third in Serie B, only outside of the automatic promotion places on head-to-head.
As they continue their quest for the top flight, Ghedjemis has proved to be vital for his side. His 14 goals and three assists have helped them climb to the top end of the table, after finishing 15th last season. Just last week, he scored both of their goals in a 2-1 win over Modena. While Celtic made a significant offer in January, with a World Cup around the corner for Ghedjemis, Frosinone believe his transfer fee is only going to increase with Clement’s Norwich City and Wolves also keen. Norwich hired Clement last year after his time at Rangers and he has turned them away from a relegation battle to promotion outsiders.
Celtic’s offer for star winger was ‘serious’
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Celtic’s offer in January was ‘very serious.’ £5.9m was put forward, and that’s major money Frosinone, who could have accepted it. He would prefer to leave in the summer after World Cup action concludes with his valuation claimed to be standing at €8m (£6.9) with the potential to grow amid UK interest. Key Celtic advantages are his desire to play in a 4-3-3, that the Hoops currently deploy, while playing in the Championship is also reportedly not of interest.
That is the level Wolves will play at alongside Norwich, unless their former Rangers boss can mastermind a miracle, six points off the final play-off spot, with two games left. Frosinone are set to make a big profit on Ghedjemis, who they signed from third tier French side Rouen back in 2023 for just £250k. Now Wolves and Norwich have also expressed an interest, Celtic are at risk of being priced out of the transfer race.
Former Rangers boss joins race for Ghedjemis
Clement has had a strong start to life in East Anglia in what his is first permanent managerial role since leaving Ibrox in February 2025. When he joined, the Canaries were in the midst of getting dragged into a relegation battle, but are now just a point from securing a top half finish. While the play-offs may be a stretch too far for Norwich, the Belgian has given the club some momentum going into next season.
As Norwich look ahead to next season’s promotion push, the same report suggests Clement is also still interested in Ghedjemis, who they made an offer of £7.8m for in January, however this was also rejected by Frosinone.
