Celtic eye Rangers transfer hijack this summer as they plot move for Ibrox target backed as mega money maker
Rangers and Celtic could be shopping in the same transfer market come the summer.
Celtic have reportedly joined the race for a star on the radar of Rangers this summer transfer window.
Goalkeeper is an area the Hoops are likely to target after veteran goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel’s possibly career-ending shoulder issue. Viljami Sinisalo has been number one at Parkhead since, but depth behind him is light, and Celtic are likely to be in the market for some competition.
Jack Butland is the bona fide number one at Ibrox but Sheffield Wednesday’s Pierce Charles has reportedly been identified as one player Rangers like. He has impressed as the shot-stopper at the crisis-hit English Championship team heading for League One next season, with ex-Owls boss Danny Rohl offering a possible out, via Rangers. Ex Ibrox defender Gareth McCauley worked with him at Northern Irish youth level and said this week that he can see the keeper becoming ‘worth a hell of a lot of money who plays in some of the world’s biggest games.’
Who wants to sign Pierce Charles this summer?
Now according to talkSPORT, Celtic are keen on hijacking Rangers interest, and signing the goalkeeper themselves. It’s stated: “Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic are among the clubs eying Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles, talkSPORT understands.
“Northern Ireland international Charles will leave Hillsborough this summer following troubled Wednesday’s relegation to League One. Rangers boss Danny Rohl worked with the 20-year-old during his time in charge of the Owls. Celtic are also in the hunt for a new number one to replace veteran Kasper Schmeichel.”

Sinisalo meanwhile has already declared how he plans to stay as Celtic number one under Martin O’Neill, and beyond. He said on dealing with the pressure that comes with being Celtic goalkeeper: “That’s what I am trying to do. That’s me as a goalie. There are moments in games where I can get better, everyone knows that I am not perfect.
Who is the current Celtic goalkeeper?
“I’m trying my best and will get better as I go. Things like coming for crosses is something I pride myself on doing. I want to help my teammates out in any way I can and that’s one way to do it. Obviously, I take responsibility when I have moments, but I’m pleased that it’s not cost us.
“I’ve said it many times, if I make a mistake, hopefully I’ll never make the same one again. That’s stuff you learn from, no one’s perfect, everyone does make mistakes, me included. We’re a very tight-knit group, we fight for each other, we’re good team-mates. You get criticised, that’s absolutely fair, that’s fine, that’s what you sign up for when you’re a footballer.
“But the belief is there, very much focused on the next one, not really focused on anything further than that, that’s the only thing we can control. Do our job and see where it takes us. There is definitely a belief within and amongst the group and the staff that we can do something — but I won’t say any more than that. We will definitely be going for it.”
