18-time international set for shock Celtic exit as ex-Rangers man sent warning ahead of Ibrox reunion

The latest headlines from Celtic and Rangers after a productive weekend of Premiership action for both clubs.

League leaders Celtic showcased their incredible squad depth by hammering a hapless Ross County by five goals in front of the Parkhead faithful.

Brendan Rodgers gave six different stars the chance to play in a new look line-up after his side’s European draw with Club Brugge - and the standout change came in the form of Luke McGowan, who rewarded his manager’s faith with a goal and three assists in a hugely lopsided victory for the champions ahead of their next test with title rivals Aberdeen.

Elsewhere in the division, Rangers ended their three-match streak without an away win in the league by earning a hard-fought 1-0 win against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.

The Light Blues failed to hit top gear throughout the contest but found a breakthrough in the second half when Ianis Hagi’s looping cross forced Jason Holt to inadvertently put the ball into his own net.

Philippe Clement’s side face Kilmarnock in their next Premiership contest in midweek, while Celtic are preparing for a blockbuster top of the table meeting with Aberdeen.

Ahead of an action packed week of action, Glasgow World rounds up the main talking points from both clubs.

Out-of-favour Celtic star set for shock January exit

Celtic wideman Luis Palma is reportedly considering his future in Glasgow after being left out of the starting squad for the third successive Premiership match.

The Honduran international played a key role in last season’s title triumph with 16 goal contributions in 29 matches, but so far this season he looks a shadow of his former self and has been limited to just seven appearances across all competition, with the bulk of those coming from the subs bench.

His national team boss signalled Palma's lack of fitness during his side’s recent defeat to Mexico, and reports from Sun Sport claim the 24-year-old is becoming increasingly frustrated at his reduced role in Glasgow after falling behind Daizen Maeda, James Forrest and Nicholas Kuhn in the Parkhead pecking order.

Palma is now set to weigh up his options in the coming weeks, with interest from MLS and Europe.

Robby McCrorie sent key message by manager ahead of Rangers reunion

Rangers academy graduate Robby McCrorie will return to Ibrox for the first time since signing for Kilmarnock this summer.

The 26-year-old, who spent nearly nine years of his career as a backup goalkeeper at Ibrox, has racked up 12 appearances for Kilmarnock this season and was heavily praised by his manager for his performance against Dundee.

Speaking ahead of the game, Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes admitted McCrorie has alot to learn after his lack of first team minutes but describes him as a player with wonderful attributes.

He told the Daily Record: “He’s obviously learning on the job, he’s 26 maybe now and he’s played the same amount of games as maybe a 19, 20 year old so we’re all learning with him so he’s learning on the job too really. But what he has got is good attributes, he made a good save against Dundee.

"It was still a save I’d expect my goalkeeper to make and as long as he keeps doing it then hopefully he gets the opportunity to show even more of himself, but we’ve got two good goalkeepers here. I think he’ll be in familiar territory obviously. The reason he’s with us is because he never played so many games at Rangers but over a period of time he was very at home, that was his home for a long time.

“There’s no doubt when you’ve served at a club for so long, there is that emotional aspect of it but I’m sure the motivation to come away from Rangers for Robby is still there. He’s still got it all to do he’s still got to keep showing week in, week out he’s a capable goalkeeper.

“It didn’t quite happen the way he wanted it at Rangers but there were always good keepers ahead of him so he should just go there and not overthink it and just try and be the keeper we expect him to be and hope he is.”
