Celtic not giving up transfer hope of signing Premier League star despite 'verbal agreement' with Tottenham
Tottenham are claimed to have an agreement in place to sign the player but Celtic continue to lurk.
It’s been claimed that Celtic have not written off chances of signing a Premier League star who has reportedly agreed to join Tottenham.
Andy Robertson will leave Liverpool at the end of this season after nine years, and speculation has swirled over where the left-back will go next. A boyhood Celtic fan, the Scotland captain has reportedly reached a verbal agreement to make the move to Spurs, as per Fabrizio Romano.
That is dependant on whether or not they’re relegated out the Premier League as Tottenham currently sit 18th and in drop-zone positioning. Now it’s claimed by teamtalk that Celtic have not given up hope of signing Robertson should the North London agreement collapse while Hull City, who Liverpool signed him from, are also lurking.
Who could Andy Robertson sign for this summer?
It’s stated: “Tottenham Hotspur have reaffirmed their agreement with Andy Robertson – with Roberto De Zerbi now sanctioning the move – after the Scotland international confirmed his Liverpool exit this summer, TEAMtalk can confirm.
“The 31-year-old is seen as a player who can immediately strengthen the dressing room as well as the starting XI, with Tottenham placing significant value on his Premier League and European experience. However, Spurs are not the only club with interest. Celtic have not abandoned hope of bringing Robertson back to Scotland, while his former club Hull City are also monitoring the situation closely.
Romano had said of Tottenham advances on Robertson: “Tottenham have a verbal agreement to sign Andy Robertson in June 2026, all terms in place. Nothing signed/sealed yet as staying in Premier League will be a key factor ahead of proceeding. Robertson, ready to pick #THFC project if relegation battle has positive outcome.”
Why is Andy Robertson leaving Liverpool?
On why he has decided to leave Liverpool, Robertson said: “I think I feel better now that it’s out in the open. The hardest bit [in] the last certainly couple of weeks and months is some people that are close to me in the training ground don’t know and more importantly, the fans. The closer it gets, the more and more questions you start to get. I’ve always said that the fans are the most important people at this club and I just think now is the time to tell them what’s going on and that obviously this will be my last year.
“I just think it’s better being out in the open, that now I can fully focus on the team from now until the end of the season. I think it’s important that I do that, I’ve always done that. But the time to have the emotional farewell and tell the fans and the people connected to this club what they mean to me, that will come closer to the end. I don’t think I’m quite ready for that yet. It’s just to try to get it out there so I can now be open and honest with everyone.
“It’s never easy leaving a club like Liverpool, it has been a huge part of mine and my family’s life for the last nine years. But for me, players move on, other people move on – the thing that stays the same is the club and obviously the fans. I’ve had an amazing nine years here. Look, I think it has been well-documented, especially over the last year or so, I’ve had opportunities to leave and I’ve not taken them because of how difficult it is to leave this club. And I wouldn’t change that for the world.”
