Celtic star pays heartbreaking tribute to George Baldock after former Sheffield United star's tragic passing
Celtic defender Auston Trusty has paid a heartbreaking tribute to his former Sheffield United team mate George Baldock following his sudden passing.
The 31-year-old was tragically found dead in his swimming pool in Athens on Wednesday just a few months after making the move to Greek giants Panathinaikos this summer.

Hide AdBaldock, who spent seven years with the Blades from 2017 to 2024, played alongside Trusty for one season at the Yorkshire outfit last term with the pair forming a close friendship in the year they spent together.

Trusty - currently on international duty with the US national team - shared a moving tribute to Baldock on social media. He wrote on his Instagram story: “Can’t believe I’m writing this. You will truly be missed. Loved every second getting to know you this past year. It was an honor to share the pitch with you. Praying for your family. Rest in peace brother.”
Scotland international and Las Palmas striker Oli McBurnie shared a series of photos with Baldock from their time together both on and off the pitch. McBurnie was a team mate of the former Celtic transfer target for five years, while ex-Rangers attacker Jamie Murphy also shared a photo captained RIP.
Baldock’s family have released a statement following his tragic passing. It read: “We can confirm that George has sadly passed away. As a family we are in shock at this terrible loss. We ask please that the media respect our privacy at this time.”

Hide AdA statement released by Sheffield United read: “Sheffield United Football Club is shocked and extremely saddened to learn of the passing of former player, George Baldock. The defender left the club in the summer after seven years at Bramall Lane and was extremely popular with supporters, staff and team-mates who pulled on a red and white shirt alongside him.
“The sincere condolences of everyone associated with Sheffield United are extended to George’s family and friends.”
Baldock also played for MK Dons, Northampton Town and Oxford United. Born in England, he qualified to play international football for Greece through his grandmother and earned 12 caps for the national team. He made 83 Premier League appearances and was instrumental in helping Sheffield United secure two promotions from the Championship in 2018/19 and 2022/23.
