Celtic ‘hold transfer talks’ with winger who is ‘happy to join’ the club this month
Celtic are looking to boost their squad ranks this transfer window
Celtic are looking to add further new recruits to their ranks this month as they work on closing the gap on Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
The Hoops have been stuttering with their form under Wilfried Nancy, which eventually led to his dismissal from the club. The Frenchman has been axed after just eight games, having lost six of them.
In attempt to turn their season around, the club have been linked with new signings, having already brought in Julian Araujo on loan from Premier League side Bournemouth.
Celtic are also looking to add new firepower to their attack, as their performances have been hit-and-miss in front of goal. The Hoops scored seven goals across their appearances against Aberdeen and Livingston but managed to find the back of the net just twice in their following games against Motherwell and Rangers.
Celtic ‘hold talks’ over potential deal for winger
In pursuit of new blood in their forward line, Celtic have been linked with a move for Ignacio Laquintana, who currently plays for Brazilian side Red Bull Bragantino. According to Herald Sport, the two clubs ‘held talks over the weekend’ regarding a potential loan-to-buy deal this month.
Laquintana is under contract with his current club until 2027 but he is eager to stake his claim for a spot in Uruguay’s 2026 World Cup squad. The 26-year-old has been capped twice for his national team but as he only made his debut in 2025, he is looking to do more to get himself further on Marcelo Bielsa’s radar.
The winger made ten goal-scoring contributions last season for RB Bragantino. He is described as a ‘quick, technical right-winger’, which Celtic will benefit from. According to the report, Laquintana is ‘happy to join Celtic’. If a deal did come to fruition, he would become the second Uruguayan on the Hoops’ books, joining Marcelo Saracchi, who signed on a season-long loan from Boca Juniors last summer.
Who else are Celtic looking to sign in January?
Celtic have already signed Araujo, who made his debut against Rangers during last weekend’s derby. The Hoops also have their eye on Jocelin Ta Bi, with reports claiming a deal is close to being finalised.
According to reports in Israel (via Glasgow Times), Ta Bi is ‘expected to leave’ his current club very soon. The Hoops have ‘shown significant interest’ in signing Ta Bi and have made an ‘increased offer’ in attempt to bring him to Parkhead.
A spokesperson for Hapoel Petah Tikva recently revealed that Ta Bi’s parent club have been in contact and confirmed they have received an ‘official offer’ from Celtic for the winger’s services.
“We have been informed by Maccabi Netanya that there has only been one official offer for Jocelin Ta Bi and it was from Celtic,” the unnamed figure said. “We expect him to leave in the coming days.”
