Fabrizio Romano claims ace who's had 64 Celtic minutes this season may make £10m transfer as deal 'terminated'

The defender spent the first half of the season on loan at Celtic from Manchester City.

Transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, has claimed a star who’s spent the first half of the season at Celtic could become subject of a £10m transfer.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey arrived at Celtic in the summer transfer window on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City but has played just 64 Premiership minutes, at right-back in a 4-0 thumping of bottom side Livingston during Martin O’Neill’s interim tenure. He has been on the bench as recently as last week’s defeat against Motherwell.

Simpson-Pusey was not in the squad for Saturday’s Premiership loss to Rangers, with the centre-back unable to get into new manager Wilfried Nancy’s plans, despite a move to a system with three central defenders. Reports of a move to Germany FC Koln had emerged and now Romano says City are looking for a £10m fee, as the Bundesliga side offer half that amount, with Simpson-Pusey’s Celtic time nearing an official close.

Where is Jahmai Simpson-Pusey making a transfer to?

He claimed on X: “Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, completing medical at FC Köln today after loan deal agreed from Manchester City. He’s in Germany to sign the contract after Celtic loan deal terminated. Buy option clause: Man City value him at £10m, Koln offer around £5m. MCFC to have buy back clause.”

Speaking upon joining the club, the Man City defender said: “It’s great to be here. It’s such a big club and I’m happy to come here, play in front of the fans and play for the team. This is a big opportunity. I want to come here and show my talent and my levels.

“It’ll be good for me to come and hopefully help the team to win the league again and do well in Europe. I had a long conversation with the manager and I liked what he was saying to me about the club. He told me how much he appreciates the club and how much Glasgow appreciates the club.

Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on why he joined Celtic

“I wanted to go somewhere where, if I’m playing, I’ll be appreciated, so I felt like this was the best option for me. I’m over the moon really. I just want to come in here and get some wins.”

Brendan Rodgers, who was the manager when the defender arrived, said: “I am really pleased we have been able to bring Jahmai to Celtic, and I believe he will be an important, quality addition to our squad. Jahmai is a quick, dominant centre half. He is a strong defender but can also move the ball forward very well as we progress through the pitch.

“I know Jahmai is excited about this move and bringing him to the club creates even more competition which will only benefit us. I am sure he will settle in well with the squad as we get ready for the matches we have coming up at home and abroad.”
