Ex West Ham United and Birmingham City boss addresses next Celtic manager question in 'amazing club' praise

The Englishman has vast experience with teams such as Birmingham City, Tottenham and West Ham United.

A former Birmingham City, Tottenham and West Ham United boss has directly addressed becoming the next manager of Celtic.

The Hoops are looking for a new leader come the end of the season with Martin O’Neill set to step aside. Harry Redknapp was at Sunday’s Edinburgh derby between Hibs and Celtic’s title rivals Hearts, which the Jambos won 2-1, flanked by ex-Hoops supremo Peter Lawwell. Redknapp is famed in England for work with the likes of West Ham and Spurs, last spotted at Birmingham City in 2017, but the 79-year-old has now been asked about a return to management at Parkhead.

He told the Scottish Sun: “No, no. Listen, it’s an amazing club and a great job, but if Martin isn’t going to get the job, then they’re not going to be bringing in someone OLDER than him, that’s for sure!”

Harry Redknapp on Rangers and Celtic

Redknapp is aware of Hearts investor Tony Bloom from his work at Brighton and he said last year that the Jambos could win the league within a decade. Hearts now lead the league with four games to go through a three point lead over Celtic in second, and four on Rangers in third, with Redknapp warning the Old Firm that Bloom craves consistent success.

He said: “Tony is a very successful man who isn’t used to failure. He’s very big in the racing game and has done very well with his horses. He’s also done an amazing job at Brighton. Their stadium is fantastic, the training ground is amazing and they’re sitting in the top half of the Premier League.

“It really is an incredible story. I spoke to him on Sunday and he’s a fascinating character. You have to admire how well he’s done. It wasn’t hard to tell how invested he’s become in Hearts, emotionally as well as financially. He’s loving the fact they are top and going for the title. I didn’t actually ask him if he gets the same nervous feeling watching Hearts as he does Brighton, but I reckon he will. he certainly looked it at 1-0 down to their rivals at half-time on Sunday!

How will Tony Bloom do at Hearts?

“Tony will be desperate for Hearts to become champions. He’s not involved in the club for any old reason. When he invests in something, he wants results and his track record speaks for itself. Tony will push and push, he’ll have a right go. He’ll make sure Hearts keep recruiting as well as possible — and, for sure, his aim will be to win the title.

“If it doesn’t happen this season — and, listen, they’re in a great position — he’ll be even stronger for it for next year. Tony’s done a great job at Brighton on and off the field. He brought in Paul Barber as chief executive to run the club and the set-up they have is every bit as impressive as what’s going on with the team.

“He wants the same thing for Hearts. If they don’t win this season I’m sure he’ll do it in the next three or four years. It’s great that Tony’s involved. I know the folk at Bournemouth were once in at Hibs, but I don’t know what happened with that.”
