Financial details revealed for Celtic's incoming number nine as Hoops given seven-figure option to buy

Celtic will be paying their imminent arrival’s salary until the end of the season.

With Borussia Monchengladbach striker Tomas Cvancara set for his Celtic loan move, German media have broke down the financial side of the transfer.

Cvancara is set to be The Hoops’ second new addition of the window and Martin O’Neill’s first signing for the club in over two decades. He will join AFC Bournemouth full back Julian Araujo, who was signed on loan until the end of the season by Wilfried Nancy.

The introduction of the 6’ 3” striker will be welcome news to the Parkhead faithful, who voiced their frustrations at Rugby Park in their Scottish Cup victory over Auchinleck Talbot last weekend, with chants of ‘sign a player’ echoing around Ayrshire.

With Celtic’s current lack of depth in the number nine position, attacking reinforcements were described as ‘essential’ by the manager. As they finally look to have somewhat filled that void, Sky Germany have revealed the financial details of the switch.

Seven-figure ‘purchase option’ for Cvancara

According to reporter Florian Plettenberg, Celtic will have the option to buy Cvancara for £6.9m at the end of the season, once his short term spell has concluded, with The Hoops paying him his Gladbach salary until then.

On X, he said: “Exclusive figures on Tomas Cvancara’s move to Celtic: Celtic covering full remaining salary until the end of the season, worth around €1m gross. At Borussia, he earns up to €2m gross per year Celtic have a €8m purchase option for the summer. Smart deal. Cvancara is highly motivated and in top shape for his new chapter with The Hoops.”

The striker has become increasingly frustrated at Borussia Park over the past year having been dropped to the bench to make way for Germany International Tim Kleindienst. Cvancara had a public falling out with former manager Gerardo Seaone at the start of last year, which resulted in fellow players asking him to be dropped, however the Czech International said he only acted in this way because he wasn’t allowed to leave the club, according to TransferMarkt.

A new chapter

While Cvancara wasn’t prolific at Borussia Monchengladbach, scoring just seven goals in 53 appearances, the 25-year old has proved in the past he knows where the goal is. He scored 24 times for Sparta Prague in 49 matches as a youngster, which got him his Bundesliga move.

As he now awaits the results of his medical in the East End of Glasgow, fresh surroundings for Celtic’s new man could do him the world of good, as he can escape the problems he faced on and off the field at Borussia Park.

The Hoops are currently extremely light in forward areas, with out of form Johnny Kenny and fringe player Shin Yamada their only out-and-out number nines. Daizen Maeda has momentarily filled the void, however the Japan International prefers to play on the wing.
