Former Celtic star turns Parkhead transfer salesman as 'amazing' advice helps trigger latest Hoops deal

Ex Hoops, Fulham and QPR man played a part in record-breaking deal

Celtic record breaker Kasper Hogh has revealed that former midfielder Stefan Johansen played a big role in him choosing a Glasgow move, advising him on everything from the Parkhead atmosphere to Scottish golf courses.

The Danish striker completed his Celtic move from Bodo Glimt earlier in the week for £11m - making him their most expensive incoming transfer. He worked under Johansen at his former club, where he is currently a youth team coach. After his move, Hogh has claimed the former Celt gave Glasgow a glowing recommendation.

Johansen spent two years at Parkhead after signing from native side Stromsgodset under ex boss Ronny Deila. He won four major trophies during his stint and also the Players’ Player of the Year award in 2015. A year later, the Norwegian moved to Fulham in England, where he also enjoyed short term spells at West Brom and QPR before hanging up his boots last year.

Johansen convinces Hogh to make Hoops switch

Via the Glasgow Times, Hogh said: "I spoke to some guys who have played here or against Celtic and asked about the club and the atmosphere. Stefan Johansen is a youth coach at Bodø, and he said it was an amazing club. When I found out there was interest, I went to speak to him and some others. I only heard good things about Celtic – and that they have good golf courses here in Scotland."

Celtic fans will welcome Johansen’s endorsement, as Hogh comes to the club with a strong reputation himself. Bodo Glimt have been serial over-achievers in recent seasons, which the Dane has spearheaded at the top end of the pitch. In their fairytale Champions League run to the last 16 last season, Hogh was on target against the likes of Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, Sporting Lisbon and Juventus.

The striker became manager Martin O’Neill’s second signing of the season behind Camilo Duran, who also has a stellar record in the Champions League. The Colombian striker has scored three goals in three games during pre-season since signing from Azerbaijan outfit Qarabag for £6m.

Hogh tells Hoops fans what to expect from him

Upon his arrival, the Dane told Celtic TV: “I’m so happy. When I came into the room and saw the shirt, I was really excited. The history of the club is so big. I spoke with some people and with my family about the club. The feeling they had, and the feeling I had in my stomach, was that this was a really good match.

“In terms of my style, I like to be in the box and score goals, but I also want to help my team-mates defensively and work hard for the team. I’ve trained throughout the summer and I’ve already played league games in Norway, so I feel ready. I just want to get started and be thrown into the fire.”
